A new throwback Christmas photo released Monday by Kate Middleton shows just how strong genetics can be: If we didn't know any better, a photo of herself as a toddler could be the twin of her youngest son, Prince Louis. 

The Princess of Wales shared a photo of herself on Instagram, dated Christmas Eve 1983. The future princess would have been weeks away from her second birthday in the adorable photo, in which she wears a navy blue cardigan over a festive blue and white dress, with a string of colorful beads around her neck while she looks out at the decorated holiday table.

Middleton’s resemblance in the photo to her youngest child can’t be missed. Louis, now five years old, is an unmistakable echo of Baby Kate in his round cheeks and facial expression.

“Sharing some festive memories this Christmas because #ShapingUs is all about the vital importance of our early years and the role played by those around us in shaping the rest of our lives,” the caption of the photo reads, before plugging the Christmas Eve airing of the Together at Christmas carol concert once more.

This is Middleton’s third year hosting the Together at Christmas special, which was filmed earlier this month at Westminster Abbey. This year, she leaned into her Shaping Us campaign stressing the importance of early childhood by inviting home health visitors, preschool teachers, and other important figures in British children’s development to the celebration. Prince Louis warmed hearts in a sweet moment with his dad Prince William at the concert event, holding his hand while being introduced to clergy members.

Middleton is full steam ahead in charitable efforts this holiday season. She also participated in the holiday tradition of giving back to the less fortunate and took the Wales children, including Louis and big siblings Prince George, 10, and Princess Charlotte, 8, to volunteer assembling holiday packages for children who are impacted by poverty.
