You know those birthday party invites that tell you that your presence is present enough? Seems like some NFL fans do not share the sentiment when it comes to Taylor Swift.
The singer was on hand in Foxborough, Mass., on Sunday to watch boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs face off against the New England Patriots, days after marathon A-list b-day celebrations in honor of her 34th birthday in New York City. When Swift was shown on one of the Gillette Stadium jumbotron screens, fan-captured footage shared to social media showed that at least once, some fans in the stadium booed in reaction to seeing her. Swift, true to her chart-topping mantra, shook it off.
In her TIME Person of the Year interview, Swift addressed complaints that she was shown too often at football games. Namely: She has nothing to do with it, sorry not sorry.
“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” she said of being caught cheering in the VIP suites. “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.”
“I’m just there to support Travis,” she said. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
Swift was also captured really getting into the game, appearing to drop a prolonged f-bomb after a failed Chiefs drive.
Despite some grumpy fans, there was plenty of sweetness for Swift on Sunday: Not only did the Chiefs top the Patriots, with a final score of 27-17, but the singer was also presented with a birthday cake in her suite. Her dad, Scott Swift, was at the game with her, and took it upon himself to gift it to fans in adjacent viewing suites.
A week-long mystery was also solved over the weekend: For those who have been wondering what was in that box that Gracie Hunt presented to Swift on behalf of the Hunt family, which owns the Chiefs, we finally know what to get the billionaire who has everything. Swift is now the proud owner of a bedazzled microphone-shaped purse designed by Judith Leiber Couture. What could be more appropriate for someone who, by their own telling, still makes the whole place shimmer?
Representatives for Taylor Swift did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
